Former Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Carol Wardle and her daughter, former Mayoress Beverley Place have donated £1,500 to the Rochdale Contact Centre.
Money was raised during the mayoral year of 2014-2015 and Councillor Wardle decided to donate money to the contract centre after seeing the work they do.
Councillor Wardle said: “They weren’t originally part of our fundraising but after we came to visit and saw the work that they were doing, we wanted to give them some money. The work that they do is fantastic and it is all about the children.”
The money donated will be used towards paying the rent and buying new toys for the children.
Centre Co-ordinator, Wendy Smith said: “We were over the moon when Carol called to say she had a donation for us. The money will be used to help pay for the rent and will hopefully help us buy some new toys.”
Rochdale Contact Centre has been operating in Rochdale for 20 years and acts as a neutral venue for parents to see their children.
Wendy added: “We have people coming from all over the place to use the centre and we have had people coming from Spain, Nottingham and France. We are a neutral place where parents, whether it be mums or dads or grandparents, come to see their children and spend some time with them.”
