Man trapped under tram

A disabled man was taken to hospital after falling underneath a tram on the Oldham and Rochdale Metrolink line at Westwood in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It is believed the man, thought to be in his 50s, fell from his mobility scooter became stuck under a tram at around 12.30am.
Fire crews, including a specialist unit, used specialist tools to lift the tram from the man.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Oldham Hospital with suspected spinal injuries and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesman said: “There was an incident involving a tram and a mobility scooter.
“Emergency services were called and Metrolink services were affected for a time.
“We will be investigating the incident with the operator, MRDL, and as such it’s not appropriate to comment any further until that has been done.”
