Ella takes on Mini Great Yorkshire Run

Date published: 28 September 2015

Eight-year-old Ella Chadwick visited Sheffield for the first time yesterday (27 September) to join hundreds of young runners at the Morrisons Mini Great Yorkshire Run.

She was honorary starter for the event, before walking the 1.5k course with her mum Karen.

Ella was born with the rare congenital nephrotic syndrome, which resulted in having both kidneys removed, and last year received a life-saving kidney from her gran. A year after her transplant operation she took part in the Morrisons Mini Great Manchester Run, supporting the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

She reached another milestone three months ago when she took her first steps unaided, and celebrated by heading to Sheffield with her family for the popular running event.

Ella’s mum, Karen Hughes said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everybody who cheered my girl on.

“Her knees were hurting but every time she heard someone cheer her name she would speed up and say that she was doing it for the Children’s Hospital. It was a fantastic day, well done to everybody who took part.”
