Date published: 28 September 2015
Kelly Lawn was crowned the first ever ‘Great Norden Bake Off’ winner for her chocolate, morello cherry jam and fresh cream cake.
Kelly, the owner of Norden Motor Company, won a champagne afternoon tea for two at Nutters Restaurant and a copy of Andrew Nutter's book.
Judged by Heywood and Middleton MP Liz McInnes and Chef Andrew Nutter and hosted by Red Butterfly Bakery, the bake off took place on Friday 25 September and saw 16 entries from the local community and businesses including Rochdale Hornets, Ryder and Dutton and Councillor Peter Winkler.
Runner up was Andy Finc for his tiramisu and Councillor Peter Winkler was third, also for a tiramisu.
Val Corns won the public vote for her lemon cheesecake.
Charlene McLean, from Red Butterfly Bakery, said: “The first Great Norden Bake Off was a massive success. Over £200 was raised for Macmillan and there is already plans in place for the Great Norden Bake Off 2016, which we are set to host at Nutters in spring.
“We are hoping that this becomes an annual event and maybe even become the ‘Great Rochdale Bake Off’."
