Date published: 25 September 2015

Coffee and cake mornings have been held across the borough this week to raise money in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Skipton Building Society, in Rochdale Town Centre, held an event on Wednesday (23 September). Staff baked treats from scratch including red velvet cupcakes, chocolate muffins and butterscotch cake.

A spokesperson from Skipton Building Society said: “We had a successful coffee morning for a fantastic cause. We are very grateful for the donations we received and would like to thank everyone who supported this event.”

RBH employees at St Alban’s House Customer Service Centre on Drake Street had their cake and ate it on Wednesday (23 September) by holding their coffee morning event. Employees from across the society tucked into coffee and home-made cakes, which was organised by the RBH New Tenants Team.

Kelly Bracegirdle, RBH New Tenants Advisor, said: "The New Tenants Team would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that donated both cakes and money for our coffee morning.. We raised £124.89 for this amazing charity."

Milnrow Library raised £370 for Macmillan following their coffee and cake morning.

A spokesperson for the library said: “We had a wonderful turnout. A huge thank you to all who came and donated to this worthy cause and many thanks to our volunteers who helped on the day.”

Coffee and cake helped residents at RBH’s Threlkeld Court independent living scheme in Middleton raise £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A tempting array of treats was on offer enabling people to satisfy their taste buds at the same time as supporting a great cause. There was also music to listen to and much laughter as the close-knit community held the get together.

In addition there was the chance to stock up on Christmas cards and wrapping paper with a small shop set up near the cake stall.

Among the 25 residents who attended the coffee afternoon was Carol Keogh, 66 said: “The event was a great idea. It brings everyone together at the same time as supporting a cause which is near to everyone’s heart.”

Staff at Siddal Moor once again went all out again to host a Macmillan Coffee morning.

Staff from the various departments baked and brought in cakes to be sold at break time. The event was well received and the school raised £274.00.

Trish Mcloughlin and Marie Howarth, the event organisers said: "We would like to thank everyone that came to our Macmillan Coffee Morning and to all that donated cakes for the occasion. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did."
