Karen Danczuk called "pathologically desperate for attention" after “inappropriate” tweet about Mecca tragedy

Karen Danczuk, the estranged wife of Rochdale MP, Simon Danczuk, has caused offence with a comment on Twitter referring to the stampede in Mecca, in which over 700 people were tragically killed.

Mrs Danczuk tweeted to over 67,000 followers: “Many Muslims believe Allah shows his feelings by actions. I wonder what message they think he’s sending following both tragedies at Mecca?”

Following the tweet, which Mrs Danczuk stated was a “serious thought provoking tweet”, many have taken her to task over her comments.

One Twitter user said: “At best, stupid and naïve, at worst, pathologically desperate for attention.”

Another said: “Maybe you want to send condolences instead of spouting nonsense. That is one of the most silliest comments we have seen. So you’re normalising the grief by some divine intervention?”

Another comment reads: “There is a human aspect involved, bad planning, you blame God for this? Wow.”

Iman Irfan Chishti MBE, from the Rochdale Council of Mosques, said that it was inappropriate for Karen to comment at this time. He said: “I don’t really want to be getting into discussions about what happened because we should be thinking about the people who lost their lives. It is inappropriate for her to comment and we should be thinking of those people and their loved ones.”

Reports state that at least 717 people have died after a stampede on the edge of Mecca. Civil defence officials have also said that more than 800 people were injured in the crush at Mina, on the outskirts of the Muslim Holy City.
