Well-being survey: Rochdalians averagely happy

Date published: 23 September 2015

Asked how happy they felt, with zero meaning 'not at all happy' and 10 'completely happy', people in the Borough of Rochdale gave an average score of 7.31.

The score is close to the average for Greater Manchester of 7.33 but below the national average of 7.46.

The citizens of neighbouring Bury are the happiest in Greater Manchester with a score of 7.55. People in Oldham are the least happy in Greater Manchester with a score of 7.19.

Anxiety levels in the borough are below the region average but slightly above the national average.

Personal well-being has risen every year since 2011/12 when data was first collected, suggesting more people in the UK are feeling positive about life, the Office for National Statistics said.

The greatest improvement in that period has been for levels of anxiety, it added.

The ONS questioned 165,000 people on four measures of well-being:

  • Happiness
  • Life satisfaction
  • Worthiness - feeling life was worthwhile
  • Anxiety
