Local councillors and community members take part in Pakistan Parade

Date published: 23 September 2015

Members of the Rochdale community and local councillors organised a float as part of the Pakistan Parade in Manchester on Saturday (19 September).

Councillor Aasim Rashid said: “It was great to see so many people with families enjoying and sharing the colourful traditions of Pakistan. The Rochdale community float was beautifully decorated by MAMC and many children enjoyed themselves. Well done Rochdale.”

Sohail Ahmed from Deeplish Community Centre, Mohammed Sheraz from Rochdale Youth Service and Azhar Shah from Freehold Community Centre took part in the parade.

Councillor Zaman and Councillor Zaheer encouraged people to join in with the fun and got them involved by waving and singing along with fellow participants.

Mohammed Sarwar, CEO of MAMC, said: “The parade was well organised and the Counsel General Zahoor Ahmed and Sajid Mahmood Qaqzi were very pleased with the standard of our float. Cultural traditions and festivals are very important for promoting good relations with all communities and Rochdale has a lot to offer.”

The Rochdale float was sponsored by Worldwide Cash & Carry, Haji Cash & Carry, Sterling Currency Exchange Money Transfer Co and the Multicultural Arts and Media Centre (MAMC).

The parade was organised by the Consulate of Pakistan, Manchester and provided the opportunity to promote the traditions and culture of Pakistan from Greater Manchester, witnessed by the wider community from Dickenson Road to the Curry Mile to Whitworth Park.
