Mandarin Ball raises £3,376 for MSA

Date published: 22 September 2015

The second annual Mandarin Ball for MSA has raised £3,376.65 for Multiple System Atrophy.

Organised by Bev and Mike Wrigley, the event has now helped the family raise £39,900 for the charity since 2013.

Speaking about the event, Bev said: “My husband Mike and I organised the event for the second year and it was originally the inspiration of myself and my brother Eric Armitage. Our hope was that eventually this would be taken on board by other MSA Trust fundraising groups across the country.”

MSA is a progressive neurological disease that causes nerve cells to shrink in different areas of the brain and affects movement, speech, balance and automatic body functions. Eric was diagnosed with MSA in 2007 and sadly lost his battle on 3 March 2015 at the age of 61.

Bev added: “The MSA Trust provides support to sufferers and carers and funds research into the cause and a cure and is wholly dependent on public donations.”

This year’s event included a champagne reception, a five course dinner, auctions and raffles and live entertainment.

Eric’s god daughter, Zoe Long, who had been on a sponsored slim since Eric died, had an official weigh in on the night and beat her target of two stone, raising over £400 for the charity.

The event was sponsored by Ramptec Ltd, Rainbow of Life DNC Care, Trant Engineering Ltd and Rochdale AFC.
