Date published: 19 September 2015

Stoneyfield Park Open Day provided interactive and fun based activities for local residents, neighbours and residents of the newly established housing opposite to Stoneyfield Park.

Despite rainfall, many children young people and residents, participated in activities of face painting, henna paint, skylight circus, bouncy castle, sports and consultation about the future of Stoneyfield Park. Local councillors also attended and helped on the day.

Staff and volunteers from Deeplish Community Centre and Rochdale Youth Service organised all activities.

Friends of Stoneyfield Park collected feedback from participants with the view to making progress and developments in this newly developed neighbourhood.

Friends of Stoneyfield Park will be supported by the Youth Service and Deeplish Community Centre to progress further on this project.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, and Mohammed Sheraz, Youth Officer from Rochdale Youth Service, commented: “All the young people and parents enjoyed the open day and we hope to make a difference in supporting residents and young people to achieve their vision about Stoneyfield Park development.".

Many residents want to see better lighting, improved play equipment and the kick pitch to be fenced properly as at the moment part of the fence is missing.

Councillors Zaheer, Linden and Zaman said: “We fully endorse this initiative and would help and support in bringing resources to make improvements to Stoneyfield Park. This open day is a first step to start this work and we fully support the Friends of Stoneyfield Park and their efforts to make it clean, safe and friendly park for all.”
