Residents hope to move forward with community cafe
Date published: 18 September 2015
A group of residents from the Littleborough area are hoping to transform a derelict construction site into a community café.
Bob Furnell, Andrea Cotterall and Rob Hudson are hoping to brighten up the site and turn it into something for the local community.
Bob said: “It is for the people of Littleborough and will hopefully be somewhere that people can come and have a drink and something to eat, whilst relaxing by the canal.”
The group hope to put a mobile café on what is now the Boys Construction Site at Canal Street, Littleborough.
Bob added: “We have spoken to the site owners and they have said that they are happy for us to rent the site. We are now just waiting to meet with the council to discuss our plans.”
The project, which will be a limited company, will be known as the Littleborough Canalside Café.
“It is time that we got up and did something with that site because it doesn’t look great and this would give people the opportunity to sit by the canal and relax,” added Bob.
Rochdale Council confirmed that they have had initial discussions with the group about their plans and have advised them that previously similar projects were rejected at the initial planning stage.
It is understood that the group are due to meet with Rochdale Council on Thursday 24 September.
