Travellers back on Cronkeyshaw Common despite sunken barriers
Despite Rochdale Council digging sunken barriers at Cronkeyshaw Common, a group of travellers have managed to access the site.
Described as “trenches” by local residents, it is understood that the sunken barriers have cost approximately £6,500.

It is understood that the travellers made their way back onto the common in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 17 September).
Mark Widdup, Director of Neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The planned sunken barrier work is still ongoing and, last night, a group of travellers accessed the common where a barrier has not yet been installed.
“We’re now looking to move the group on and will then continue to work on securing the area.”
