Gemma Bunting raising money for Springhill Hospice by taking part in Pink Collar Boxing Challenge

Gemma Bunting, 28, from Wardle, is hoping to raise at least £200 for Springhill Hospice by taking part in a Pink Collar Boxing Challenge.

Speaking to Rochdale Online she said: “To be honest it was a random thing. I saw it online and had a read through it and then I saw that you could do it for charity and so I signed up to do it. I then had this thought of ‘oh wow, what have I got myself into.’

Gemma has had an interest in boxing since a young age and often watches the sport with her husband.

“Boxing was something that I grew up with. I have four brothers and two of them are boxers and it is something that I watch with my husband, so it is an interest of mine,” added Gemma.

To prepare for the challenge, Gemma has undertaken an eight week training programme and has received some help from her brothers.

She said: “Training is going well. For a younger brother I think he is enjoying having the chance to hit me! We are also training at the gym twice a week and that is going well also.”

Gemma has set herself a fundraising target of £200 and has currently raised £195.

She added: “I set myself the target of £200 and we are nearly there so that is great.”

Gemma decided to raise money for Springhill Hospice following numerous connections with the organisation.

“I have had some family members who have been in the Hospice as patients, including my grandad,” said Gemma. “I did some volunteer work with them on the accounts side of things and my dad works there, so it seemed like a good charity to choose.”

The boxing challenge will take place on Sunday 20 September in Manchester.
