Female delivery driver punched in the face and parcels stolen

Date published: 15 September 2015

At 12.55pm on Wednesday (9 September 2015) a 54-year-old delivery driver parked in her van on Hornby Street, Heywood. She felt the van lower and turned round to see a man in the back, demanding she gave him the keys.

She refused and when she tried to stop him from taking them, she was punched in the face.

A parcel was stolen before a second man joined him and stole another one. Both men ran off in the direction of Hardfield Street.

One man is described as being white, 5ft 8in tall, of thin build, in his early 20s, bald, had dark eyebrows, spoke with a local accent and wore a dark jacket.

The second man was white and in his early 20s.

Detective Constable Dan Daly said: “The victim was left shaken but thankfully did not suffer any injury. It was the middle of the day when the two men targeted the van and we believe someone would have either witnessed the crime or saw them running away. If you did, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
