Council bid to host the London poppies

Date published: 13 September 2015

A bid to host the Weeping Window, the cascade of poppies that poured out of the Tower of London’s high window into the grassed moat below, has been submitted by Rochdale Council.

The red poppies that drew crowds of thousands to mark the centenary of the First World War will go on display around the country.

More than four million people crowded around the Tower of London to take a look at the breathtaking display of 888,246 ceramic poppies which commemorated 100 years since the start of the Great War.

While many of the poppies were bought by members of the public to keep in their homes, with proceeds going to charity, the remaining thousands will now go on display at locations in the north of England.
