Heritage Open Day: Hare Hill House

Date published: 13 September 2015

Hare Hill House welcomed members of the public through the doors as part of Heritage Open Day.

As well as offering guided tours of the building to visitors, volunteers dressed up in traditional clothing to tell those in attendance the details of the house.

Visitors could take in the Victorian Gentleman’s residence, a WW2 air raid shelter and the council chamber.

Hare Hill House originally belonged to the Newall family and was bought by the Littleborough Urban District Council in 1901. This then provided the public park, a library, council offices and premises for the fire station.

Nick Andrews, Hare Hill House project champion, said: “We haven’t stopped doing the tours since about 11am so we have had a good response. It has been great.”
