Ella Chadwick and Karen Hughes nominated to be War of Roses County Captains for Lancashire

Date published: 10 September 2015

Ella Chadwick and her mum Karen Hughes have been nominated to be War of the Roses County Captains during this year’s Great Yorkshire Run.

Inspirational people from Lancashire have been shortlisted to lead the county in this year’s Great Yorkshire Run, which takes place in Sheffield on Sunday 27 September.

Ella had a lifesaving kidney transplant last year after being born with Nephrotic syndrome, a rare illness that saw her needing both kidneys removed, and beat the odds by walking for the first time earlier this year.

Ella and Karen from Whitworth, have now been shortlisted to the final six, with members of the public asked to vote for who they want to see captain the team.

Speaking about the nomination, Karen said: “It was a lovely surprise to be nominated. I’m biased and think Ella is amazing, so it’s lovely when others appreciate how far she has come. We’ve both come to be where we are today down to Ella’s determination.”
