Trees felled at Townhead
Date published: 09 September 2015
Trees are being removed from the back of Town Head House.
The Grade II listed town centre three storey detached building was originally built as a residential dwelling in the 1800s, it was then part of Rochdale Council’s Offices.
The council recently sold the building, it being surplus to requirements, staff having moved to the newly refurbished 'Fashion Corner'.
The car park at the rear of the building was surrounded by trees, but these are being felled and removed by the new owners.
A spokesperson for Rochdale Council said: “These trees are being removed by the private landowner as part of the improvements to the buildings behind. Many were in a poor condition and although they are within the Townhead conservation area, they are not subject to a protection order. It is hoped a small number will remain.”
