Eleanor Scales gets golden trip of a lifetime as she heads to Iceland

Date published: 07 September 2015

Eleanor Scales, a Girlguiding member from Littleborough is getting ready to embark on a journey of a lifetime - travelling to Iceland to take part in an exciting community development project.

Travelling alongside fifteen other Girlguiding members, Eleanor, 14, will participate in the International Opportunities scheme – otherwise known as IntOps.

Eleanor will travel to Iceland for two weeks in August 2016 and will take part in a vital community development project.

The IntOps project has been one of the core opportunities open to Girlguiding members between the ages of 14 and 25 since its inception, with participants travelling as far afield as Morocco, Sangam, Peru and Armenia.

Eleanor, along with the other members of her group, will have to raise all funds themselves before their trip. Fundraising events currently in the planning stages include bingo and quiz nights, bake sales and performance evenings.

Eleanor said: “I am honoured to have been selected to go on an IntOps trip. To be one of only three whom were picked from Lancashire South East is quite a feat."

"I look forward to travelling to Iceland with the other girls in my group and getting involved with the community service projects and the sightseeing - I've never been to Iceland before but from what I've read it will be an experience unlike any other."
