Greater Manchester Police website hit by denial-of-service attack
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) website was hit by a denial-of-service attack on Wednesday in a "malicious attempt to disrupt services", GMP said.
The site was unavailable for more two hours from 8pm and Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins apologised for any inconvenience caused.
A short time later the site went down again, a Twitter user from Lithuania claiming responsibility.
The Manchester Airport website has since also been down with a further tweet from the same account suggesting responsibility.
DCC Hopkins said the GMP website server was not connected to other police computer systems and contained only information which was already in the public domain.
The GMP website is now back online.
