Growth Project open day

Date published: 17 August 2015

Over 100 people were in attendance at an open day held by the Growth Project to see the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale open a station in the allotment.

Held at the Kellett Street allotments, the Mayor of Rochdale, Surinder Biant, officially opened the replica Victoria railway station, which is going to be used for woodworking activities.

The 10 yard long structure is one of the major projects designed and built by the volunteers and includes a ladies and gentleman’s waiting room, which consists of a floral display artfully grown in a pair of reclaimed toilets.

The annual open day allows the beneficiaries of the project, which is a partnership between Hourglass and Rochdale and District Mind, to show the town the horticultural delights that have been produced throughout the year, and to give prospective new volunteers an idea of what kind of activities are available.
