Scaffolding at the former Weavers Arms
Concerns have been raised by members of the public in relation to the scaffolding around the former Weavers Arms pub on Ashfield Road, Rochdale.
One resident who contacted Rochdale Online is worried about the state of the scaffolding and described it as “unsafe” and “obstructing the pavement”.
The resident added: “No work has been done in a number of weeks but the scaffolding is still on site. It is obstructing the road and children are playing on it. The building is just a shell – there are no floors and the skip inside hasn’t been emptied for months.
“I have rang the council to complain but nothing has happened for three months.”
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “The works are for a planning consent granted in October 2013 for the change of use of the building to a children’s teaching centre and the erection of a two-storey side extension and a first floor conservatory to the rear.
“While the council acknowledges that works have stopped and there are frustrations there are, at this stage, no legislative mechanisms we can use to hurry the development along.
“Concerns about the status of the scaffolding and whether there are any issues of highway obstruction have been passed to the highways enforcement team to investigate further.
"With regard to vandalism and children trespassing on site, we would advise people to contact the police.”
