Respite care home residents moved due to lack of CQC registration at Leighton House

Date published: 13 August 2015

Residents at Leighton House respite care home at Hollingworth Lake have been moved after it was discovered the home was not registered with the Care Quality Commission, as it is legally required to be.

The home, run by PossAbilities CIC, opened late 2014 and the Council has been placing people there for overnight care, until recently when they discovered the home wasn't registered.

PossAbilities CIC describes itself as "a brand new organisation developed from the existing Adult care Provider, run by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council Adult social care service".

Rachel Law, Chief Executive, PossAbilities CIC, said: “Leighton House is currently going through the registration process with the Care Quality Commission and we anticipate that this should be processed within the next few weeks.

"PossAbilities made the decision to move people out as a precautionary measure until this issue has been resolved. We have worked closely with individuals and their family members and have offered alternative provision which people are happy with. We hope to be open and back up and running in the next couple of weeks.”

Sheila Downey, Head of Adult Care at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The council identified that Leighton House, a respite care facility run by PossAbilities, is not currently registered with the regulator, the Care Quality Commission, which is aware of this issue. This was an administrative matter and not connected in any way with the quality of care provided.

"PossAbilities has suspended this service pending the completion of the registration process.

"PossAbilities and the Care Quality Commission are working together to resolve this matter as soon as possible and we fully expect the service to be up and running again in the very near future.

"All those affected by this situation were contacted and alternative arrangements for their respite care have been arranged.”
