Speaking to Rochdale Online he said: “I am very pleased to see the police station open again in Heywood.

"They did a brilliant job on Saturday (8 August) and it is great to see that we now have cadets and PCSOs in the area.

The people of Heywood are grateful that the station is open again and I also feel grateful that it is open again. It was a worthwhile campaign.”

Councillor Rush campaigned for the station to be re-opened for a number of years.

In 2012, the public enquiry counter at Heywood Police Station was closed following a review by the Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA) and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to establish the cost effectiveness of 55 public enquiry counters across Greater Manchester.

The neighbourhood team for Heywood moved out of the building when the Major Incident Team (MIT) moved in and were based in Middleton.

It was revealed in March this year that Neighbourhood Beat Officers and PCSOs covering Heywood will be parading and being deployed from the station and it was hoped that the move back would enhance officer’s visibility, foster and strengthen confidence and develop reassurance with the community.

Though officers and PCSOs are using the station, it is understood that there are no front desk facilities.
