Bethany Murray to shave her head to raise money for Macmillan

Date published: 05 August 2015

Bethany Murray, 24, from Belfield, is set to shave her hair in a bid to raise money for Macmillan.

Bethany, who will undergo the drastic hair cut on 31 August, decided on the fundraising after a number of family member’s battled cancer.

She said: “My family has suffered with cancer a lot and a lot have been lucky but some haven’t. My friends mum is also fighting cancer at the minute and I thought if I can’t help her, then why not raise money to show I am supporting her.”

Bethany hopes to raise £300 from her fundraising.

“I decided to set myself a realistic target. It may not seem like a lot but I think it can be done,” added Bethany.

Bethany will have her head shaved at a barbers on Drake Street and she is currently excited but nervous about the prospect.

She said: “I am excited but I am really, really nervous about it. I think because it’s my hair and for women, their hair is important to them, that’s what’s making me nervous.”

Macmillan’s Brave the Shave campaign is a fundraising initiative held throughout August which asks peoples to shave their heads and stand proudly alongside men and women with cancer, whilst raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
