Shelly B’s Café on Drake Street and Jamilla Paul’s salon on Nelson Street were broken into on Saturday morning (18 July).

CCTV footage from Shelly B’s Café shows the offender entering the premises at around 4:25am. He got into the building through the hole made for the extraction fan.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Shelly said: “I came in on Saturday and saw a big gaping hole in the wall where the extractor fan was. He had smashed it off of the wall with a concrete slab and climbed through.”

Once inside the building, the male offender moved one CCTV camera so it was not pointing at his face, before rummaging through the till.

Shelly added: “He has taken four charity boxes which were for the Air Ambulance, Cancer Research, Children’s Cancer and the Littleborough Canal Boat Project. £3 that was left on the side because it was being donated to a charity that was fundraising online was also taken.

“I don’t leave anything in the till in case anyone gets in. I purposely leave the draw open with some copper in, so he has seen that and took what he could.”

Shelly is convinced she knows who is responsible for the burglary.

She added: “I know who this person is because he has tried to get into my place three times before and hasn’t succeeded. I know who it is and it makes me angry. He is known for these crimes and he is good at it. He is from Oldham and is known for it in Oldham. He has come to Rochdale from Oldham and has been back two years and these crimes start happening again.

“They have got a footprint from my café so hopefully that will help identify him.”

Shelly B’s Café is currently closed as steel fabricators need to come and assess the damage done to the building.

Jamilla Paul’s Salon on Nelson Street was targeted sometime between 6:30pm on Friday 17 July and 7:45am on Saturday 18 July.

The offender did not manage to enter the premises as the windows to the salon are shuttered or have iron gates on them.

The offender smashed the back window and created a mess. A number of electrical items including hair straighteners were then stole from the window display.

Jamilla said: “Thankfully they didn't get much, but it's just so stressful for everyone walking into that.

"I feel sorrier for the other people’s break-ins as they had it much worse.”

Police inquiries into the break-ins are ongoing.
