Canal group clear garden at Durn
Date published: 20 July 2015
The Littleborough Canal Adoption Group cleared the garden at Durn and planted donated plants to brighten it up and painted the metalwork on their volunteer day on Thursday (16 July).
Bob Furnell, Littleborough Canal Adoption Group organiser, said: "The group will soon have use of a work boat and will use her to clear obstructions in the canal that damage canal boats as they scrape over them.
"Canal boats pick up everything from sofas to plastic bags that lay unseen under water and foul their props as they come through populated areas of the Rochdale Canal.
"The group will be operating the work boat from September onwards to do the canal clearing and cut vegetation from the opposite side of the canal tow path."
