Expressive Arts:
Call backs for speaking roles in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' are happening this week. The final cast will be announced on Friday 17 July. Over 80 pupils auditioned for the show and the Expressive Arts staff are really proud of the students who took part. We are looking forward to starting rehearsals in September.
Springhill Hospice Schools Project
Four Year 11 pupils from St Cuthbert's recently had the opportunity to be involved in a new venture at Springhill Hospice.
The pupils, who have completed their GCSE exams this summer, gave up their own time to take part.
Over the course of four mornings, spread over four weeks, pupils and Day Hospice patients spent quality time chatting and getting to know each other whilst working on a piece of art work together.
On the final week, the pupils were invited to give a short presentation to Hospice and school staff about their experience and how they had benefitted from being part of the project.
All of the pupils expressed how much they had enjoyed getting to know their "buddy" and they had all found common ground and plenty to talk about.
One pupil said: "I have come to realise that people of a different age can be such great company."
The patients spoke very movingly about how much they had enjoyed spending time with St Cuthbert's pupils and Senior Staff Nurse, Debbie Johnson, said the school should be very proud.
It is hoped that there will be further opportunity for more pupils to be involved with the project next year.
Groundwork Group
The groundwork group had a reward trip to celebrate successfully completing their 12 week course. The trip involved ten pin bowling (Mrs Ellidge was the champion), lunch at McDonalds and the cinema to watch Minnions. Well done to all.
