Improvement notice lifted from Rochdale Council

Date published: 16 July 2015

An improvement notice given to Rochdale Council in 2013 has been lifted.

Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “The Improvement Notice has been lifted. I think this really shows the progress made in Rochdale and acknowledges that the council has worked together.”

The notice was given to the council in 2013 following a review of its children’s services in the wake of the child grooming case, in which nine men were jailed.

At the time, Ofsted described the local authority arrangements for child protection in the borough as “inadequate”.

Councillor Pat Sullivan praised the work of Councillor Martin and the staff for ensuring that the notice was lifted.

She added: “I am so glad that the improvement notice has been lifted. The staff and Councillor Martin have worked hard to make sure it is good. This is a good news story. We have waited so long to hear this, so it is a wonderful story.”
