Rochdale Rotary Club has a former Rochdale Mayor as its new President

Date published: 16 July 2015

Former Mayor of Rochdale Irene Davidson was formally inducted as Rochdale’s new Rotary President by outgoing President Bob Chadwick at a handover ceremony at the Masonic buildings.

Irene said: “I feel so proud to be President of such a thriving Rotary Club and in such a worthwhile organisation as Rotary”.

After a very successful year for the club, raising over £10,000 for charity, Irene said: “It will be a hard act to follow but am delighted the club will help my chosen charities over the coming year. I’m looking forward to a busy year of events organised so well by our team of Rotarians and hope more of the Rochdale people will want to become members.”

Rotary is supporting the Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home which helps less fortunate youngsters to have a good holiday break.

“As a child my family wasn’t well off and memories of those difficult times make me very aware of how children can suffer,” Irene said.

Also with her personal experience of being a patient at the Christie hospital the Christie Kidney Cancer Research will also be supported.

“For some reason”, Irene said, “kidney cancer has not attracted much research money so far, but hopefully our support will encourage many other people and organisations to do the same.”

Vice President John Holder and second Vice President Ann Stott were also inducted on the same evening.
