Falinge Park University of Manchester Science Stars
Date published: 15 July 2015
On 1 July 45 of the Falinge Park High School Year 9 Further Additional Science students joined pupils from other schools in the region for the University of Manchester Faculty of Life Science ‘Science Stars’ Event.
They handled real hearts and made a working model of a heart, carried out tests to diagnose diabetes, searched for alien life and played a computer game to investigate 3D protein structures. They also competed in a neuroanatomy quiz, with some of our students on the winning team.
All of our students enjoyed the event, and their participation and behaviour were superb. As well as the opportunity to do some exciting hands-on science, the day gave them a chance to experience of university.
One pupil commented: “The best thing about this event, for me, was getting to know how life in university can be.”
We are looking forward to taking another group of year 9 students to this fantastic event again next year!
