Falinge Park's Healthy Fun Day

Date published: 14 July 2015

Visitors enjoyed free fruit, smoothies and health information at the Falinge Park's 'Healthy Fun Day' on Sunday (12 July)

Organised and run by young people from Rochdale as part of two innovative projects from Greater Manchester Youth Network, the young people have chosen to explore two issues this year, obesity and mental health.

They planned the Healthy Fun Day with the aim of promoting healthy eating and physical activity.

Over 40 health packs were handed out, each containing free fruit and free gifts including pedometers and skipping ropes, and 36 smoothies were made on a smoothie bike, combining physical activity with a healthy fruit intake.

Nick Rogers, Project co-ordinator for Health Action Champions, said: “This event was a huge success, on such a small budget the young people planned and delivered a remarkable feat.”

Health Action Champions is a project for 14-21 year olds from across the Rochdale borough that aims to give young people a voice in the health service.
