Greater Manchester Youth Network

Date published: 10 July 2015

The Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) held an engagement event on Thursday (9 July) to show people their projects, the work that young people do and gave those in attendance the opportunity to explore their partnership work.

The GMYN is a registered charity that works to enable young people and organisations to participate, develop and achieve.

A number of youth projects were at the event, held at St Andrew’s Church, to show off what they offer to young people.

Health Action Champions, a Rochdale based project, gives young people aged 13-21 the opportunity to volunteer and make a difference. The project helps to improve the engagement and access of young people into the strategic decision making of the health services across the Rochdale Borough.

Give Get Go is another Rochdale based project that was at the event.

Give Get Go is a free programme for 16-25 year olds in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton that explores volunteering and emotional wellbeing.

Starting in March this year, the project will run until March 2016 and gives participants the opportunity to get hands on volunteering experience, make a difference in Rochdale communities, get funding for community project ideas, access training and gain certificates, take part in art and media projects, become a peer ambassador and meet new people by trying something new and gaining new skills.

Alison Bunn, a member of the GMYN Board of Trustees, said: “The passion that the GMYN has and the work that these projects do is fantastic.”

The GMYN was set up in 2007 out of the passion that its founding members had for volunteering and the benefits it can bring, particularly for young people. Since 2007 GMYN has grown, registered as a charity and diversified the type of range of activities on offer to young people.
