Middleton has the Blues

Date published: 08 July 2015

Legendary Blues musician Victor Brox headlined the Middleton Rock ‘N’ Blues Festival 2015 last week (28 June).

Favoured by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Tina Turner, Victor, from Manchester, performed four solo songs with his unique style.

Jon Firth, the organiser of the event, said: “What can I say about Victor? I've known him since the sixties and had the pleasure of playing alongside him on many occasions. He thanked me on Monday specifically for including him on the bill and to pass my thanks to everyone. Victor is truly a legend.”

Also performing was the Lol Goodman Band, said to be the best original rock/blues band in the North West. Their blues careers has spanned from the early seventies, gaining two critically acclaimed albums.

Also in the line-up were the Tony Auton Band with their multi-genre mixture of rock, punk, blues and folk. Nick Dow and Pete Benbow played acoustic blues. Nick has been a presenter of the Lancashire Bluenotes episodes on BBC Radio Lancashire for nearly 25 years.

Lol Goodman Band sound engineer, Ben Calvert played unusual acoustic rock covers with his friend from college, Asher MacGowan.

The Lol Goodman Band organised the event. Jon Firth, from the Lol Goodman Band, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to support our inaugural Middleton Rock 'n' Blues Festival. I stress inaugural because, all being well, we will do it again next year. I would also like to thank the performers.”
