Friends of Balderstone Park and councillors take a walk in the park

Date published: 04 July 2015

Members of the Friends of Balderstone Park and local councillors on a walkabout around the park.

They were joined by environment bosses to look at planned improvements for the area.

Members looked at the proposed site of the new skate park, funded by the Kirkholt Million lottery grant, and work to improve the pathway from Great Gates Road, the planting a wildflower garden and new picnic benches.

Pat Colclough, Chairwoman of the Friends' Group, said: "There is a lot of work being planned for Balderstone Park and youngsters cannot wait for the new skate park to be built. But we also pointed out to parks managers the need to improve day-to-day maintenance such as grass cutting and keeping on top of litter.

Local councillor Richard Farnell said: "The Friends' Group are a fantastic bunch of volunteers who help make the park a really attractive place for families to enjoy. It really is a jewel in the crown. The old Balderstone School playing fields are soon to be incorporated into the park, which will make it even bigger and better.

Anyone wishing to join the Friends' Group should leave their contact details at the Library, situated in the park.
