Highways Department staff at Rochdale Council fear for their jobs
Date published: 03 July 2015
Highways Department staff at Rochdale Council fear their jobs are under threat as the Council is looking to make changes in order to save money. Staff believe the department is to be relocated and they will either be laid off or moved to Manchester.
Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We are considering a shared services proposal to enable us to deliver a more effective and integrated highways service in the future.
"Specific details on where highway shared services could be located and the number of staff involved are yet to be decided, as are the time-scales.
"These proposals will be discussed with councillors, unions and staff before decisions are made on service details.”
The Council has to save £51 million over the next two financial years.
