The Star Tree Studio awarded grant from the Arts Council

Date published: 26 June 2015

The Star Tree Studio in Littleborough has been awarded a grant from the Arts Council and will now be able to offer workshops and classes to children aged 5-16.

Neela Jackson, manager of The Star Tree Studio, said: “It is really exciting news.

"I applied for the grant in hopes of getting support to bring artists into the studio with a view of widening the provision that we offer.”

Now that the funding has been granted, Neela has invited a number of artists to hold workshops for older children.

So far, four artist are confirmed to hold workshops at the studio:

  • Amy Daniels, a ceramics artist.
  • Emma Knowles, a fine artist.
  • Alan Birch, a print artist.
  • Lindsey James, a fashion designer.

Dates for the workshops have been confirmed for Wednesday 22 July, Wednesday 29 July, Wednesday 5 August, Wednesday 12 August, Wednesday 26 August and Saturday 29 August, but it is not yet known who will appear at the studio on which day.

Two sessions per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There are twelve places available at each session and booking is advised. The cost is £1 per person and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Neela added: “To be honest, I didn’t think I would get the grant and really applied for the experience of applying for a grant as the studio, because that is something I have never done before. But I must have ticked the right boxes with what we aimed to do.

"It really is about widening the provision and bringing people into the studio who wouldn’t necessarily do things like this in this area.”
