Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 25 June 2015

Residents attended a breast cancer awareness event at Deeplish Community Centre for the on Monday 15 June.

The breast cancer team of Demesne Community centre gave a talk and handed out information to community members regarding early detection of breast cancer.

The main aim of this seminar was to make aware and train people on how to detect breast cancer in early stages and build confidence in people to come forward with any concerns they have and not to be shy away from these problems.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, both women and men can be affected by it, so it is important to be breast aware, being aware is part of caring for your body, knowing how your breast look and feel so you know what is normal for you. You can then feel confident about any unusual changes and reporting it to your GP.

The breast cancer team spoke on how and where you should go if you find anything unusual in your breast such as lumps and changes in shape.

Mazia Bi, Health activities Coordinator at Deeplish Community Centre, said, “Many of our women were not aware of these conditions and where to go regarding how to check for changes in their breast.

"Many spoke out saying they were not aware that Rochdale had surgeries where they could go to check if they have concerns of changes in their body.

"We are keen and active to promote this message and raise an awareneness through our Health Project."

Project Manager, Sohail Ahmad, said, “We are keen to raise awareness about health and well-being issues and were pleased to see so many participants attending this health seminar.

"We are grateful for our friends from Demesne Community Centre to facilitate this session and very pleased to work in partnership."
