Smallbridge Gardening Project

Date published: 24 June 2015

The Smallbridge Gardening Project, which is in its first year, has been put together by the Pennines Township, the Smallbridge Residents Association and Smallbridge Library.

Nadeem Hussain who has been working on the project said: “We wanted to do something to stop people pulling out the plants next to the library, because that was starting to become a problem.”

Since the project started, those involved, which includes local school children, have planted a number of fruits and vegetables next to the library.

“The fruits and vegetables will then be used to make a meal for everyone involved as a thank you for the work,” added Nadeem.

So far cabbages, lettuces, chillis, strawberries, broccoli and potatoes have been planted.

Nadeem added: “Hopefully it is working because so far nothing has been pulled up and that was the aim. It looks great as well.”
