Van driver fined for lane hogging whilst driving between Rochdale and Huddersfield
Date published: 23 June 2015
A van driver who was driving at 60mph in the middle lane of the M62 between Rochdale and Huddersfield has been convicted of careless driving.
The driver of a Citroen Berlingo van has been fined £500 and has received five points on his license. He was also ordered to pay £400 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge, after driving in the middle lane, when the inside lane was clear.
Leeds Magistrates Court heard how the motorist had several chances to move back into the left hand lane, but did not give way and instead chose to drive in an inconsiderate manner.
The incident occurred in August last year on the M62 near to junction 23 Outlane.
It is understood that the driver is thought to be the first in the UK to be convicted of this offence.
The government brought in new £100 on the spot fines specifically for middle lane hogging in August 2013.
