Man brutally attacked at Courteeners gig

Date published: 23 June 2015

A man needed two plates inserted into his cheek after he was assaulted at gig.

The victim, 27, was attacked while attending the Courteeners gig in Heaton Park on Friday 5 June.

He was at the bar area when he accidentally bumped into the offender.

Despite his apology, the offender turned extremely aggressive before walking off.

However, moments later he returned and punched the 27-year-old in the face, fracturing his cheekbone in two places.

The man was later admitted to hospital and needed an operation to have two plates inserted into his face to stabilise his cheekbone.

The offender is described as being white, 5ft 8in tall, with short ginger hair and a ginger beard. Police have released a picture of this man which was taken on a mobile phone by a friend of the victim.

Police are now appealing to anyone who either witnessed the incident or recognises the offender from the picture to come forward.

Detective Constable Mike Keogh said: "I'm sure everyone has been in a busy bar when they have accidentally bumped into someone, but you do not expect it to descend into this level of violence.

"This man was simply enjoying the festival and trying to get a drink when he bumped into the offender, purely by accident, and as a result was brutally attacked. He had to undergo an operation to have two plates inserted into his face and thanks to the wanton and violent actions of this man, he will remember Courteeners for all the wrong reasons.

"One of his friends followed the offender and took a picture on their mobile phone, which we have now issued.

"I would urge people to look carefully at this image and if you think you recognise the man in the picture then please come forward as you could help us catch him."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Update: Greater Manchester Police have requested that the image of a man issued with the appeal be removed.
