Darth Vader and Storm Troopers take over Spotland Stadium for Dale Con 3

Date published: 20 June 2015

Spotland Stadium was taken over today (Saturday 20 June) by Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, superheroes, zombies and Ghostbusters as Dale Con 3 took place.

Aided by Dave Prowse MBE, Pam Rose and Brian Wheeler, to name a few, the science fiction convention kicked off at 9am and welcomed hundreds of fans.

Organiser Martin Ballard said: “We are really pleased with how it has gone. We had people queuing past the stadium this morning for the early bird entry and then after that people have just kept on coming. It is bigger than last year and with it being a paid event we have been able to invest in more attractions, which have been great.”

Dale Con 3 saw areas of the stadium transformed to host a number of well-known science fiction characters and actors.

Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers were on hand for photo opportunities as well as Captain Jack Sparrow, Batman and Transformers.

Star Wars actor Dave Prowse MBE, Darth Vader himself, was the main attraction for the day and was accompanied by well-known science fiction actors including Star Wars actors Brian Wheeler, Pam Rose, Michael Henbury, Alan Harris and John Chapman.

Andrew Lawden, Matthew Dale (Doctor Who), Josephine Gillian (Game of Thrones), Pixie Le Knot (Game of Thrones), Julian Seagar (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Hattie Hayridge (Red Dwarf) also made appearances at the convention.

It is already anticipated that Dale Con 4 will go ahead next year.

Martin added: “It will definitely be back and it will be bigger and better.”
