Eleventh year for ‘Ascot at Nutters’

Date published: 18 June 2015

The annual ‘Ascot at Nutters’ event, in its eleventh year, was attended by 149 supporters of the NSPCC, with ladies dressing to impress as if they were at Ascot for the races.

Organised by Bob Chadwick and The Rotary Club of Rochdale, the event raised money for the NSPCC and its School Service.

Speaking about the event, Rotary Club President, Bob, said: “We are really pleased with the turnout. It’s great that this event is in its eleventh year so we are really pleased.

"The event raised over £18,500 for the NSPCC.”

Lis Kay, from the Rochdale Ascot at Nutters committee, added: “This is an event that we can’t let go of. It is such a good event and the turnout has been fantastic.”

Fisherfield Farm Nursery who are big supporters of the NSPCC donated a cheque of £13,092 to the charity after fundraising at various events throughout the year.

Helen Matthews, Area Coordinator for the NSPCC School Service, said: “It is events like this that help us fund our services so we really do rely on events like this being held. The money from this event will go back to helping children in the Rochdale borough. We are really pleased with the money raised, it is fantastic.”

The NSPCC School Service (formerly ChildLine School Service) uses specially trained volunteers to talk to primary school children about abuse. So far in Rochdale, the NSPCC has visited 55% of schools and has spoken to over 3,000 year five and six pupils.

During the event guests were treated to a drinks reception before sitting down to a three course meal prepared by Chef Andrew Nutter.

As well as a three course meal, guests got to enjoy the races as well as taking part in a raffle, whilst enjoying the surroundings of Nutters Restaurant.
