On Sunday 12 July, David will take on the first of his challenges, which will see him cycle 60 miles from Manchester to Blackpool in aid of the Christie Charitable Trust.

On Sunday 26 July, David will take on a 160 mile bike riding challenge from Blackpool to Scarborough to raise funds and awareness for Vasculitis suffers.

David, who is a member of the South Manchester Spiritualist Church, only started riding this year.

He has now termed himself ‘spirit on a bike,’ as he is determined to play his part for the local community, after being inspired by one of the Spiritualists’ National Union’s (SNU) seven principles - the Brotherhood of Man - which focuses on helping one another to make the world a better place.

David said: “I know that support from Spirit helped me get me through the tough ride I had in the highlands earlier this year. Along with the amazing Scottish people who showed me overwhelming support.

“It was much tougher than I ever imagined and there were many times that I wanted to just give up but I was determined to finish on time. At my lowest point, I put my music on and the first song was ‘Don’t Give Up’ a sure sign that I needed to carry on.

“As Spiritualists we are dedicated to helping others, and I am now determined to keep up with these charity rides and raise some vital funds for great causes.”

In September, David will be embarking on a grueling cross country 100 mile bike ride starting and ending in Wythenshawe Park, Manchester with funds again going to the Christie Charitable Trust.

Christie’s is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year.

In a final twist, avid Manchester United fan David is calling out for a bike-riding Manchester City fan to face him in an ultimate riding challenge – a cross-city riding challenge, cycling a figure of eight between City and United stadiums all in aid of charity.
