Emerson Educational Trust Award for Thomas Bradshaw

Date published: 15 June 2015

Thomas Bradshaw, 19, from Middleton, has been awarded The Emerson Educational Trust Award for his learning achievements.

Thomas was selected from thousands of students to receive the award after impressing judges with his learning success.

Since starting at Hopwood Hall College, he has  been a key student working in the College’s new THinc cafe and has also taken part in work placements where he has been very successful. Asda bosses, where Thomas carried out his work placement, were so impressed with his work that they have asked him to stay on for an internship. They added that if a job vacancy became available that they would have no hesitation in giving him a job.

Thomas was surprised to find out he had won the award. He said: “I was so shocked when they read out my name. I had no idea I had won, I’m so pleased though. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Hopwood and doing all my work placements and I’m excited to be going back and doing more at Asda.”

His tutors are equally impressed, citing that he is a positive influence to his classmates and that he has progressed tremendously.

The award was presented to Thomas by John Durcan, from the Emerson Educational Trust, the sponsors of the award. He commented: “This prize is for those educated in Middleton, and in particular to the best students. I have presented this award for six years now and I’m delighted to say that this year the winner is Thomas.”
