Three people escape as seven fire engines tackle a fire at Haji on Tweedale Street
Date published: 15 June 2015
Three people sleeping in living accommodation at the Haji Superstore on Tweedale Street escaped when a fire broke out in store rooms.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called just after 2.00am this morning (Monday 15 June). Three outbuildings behind the terraced shop were on fire and the building was well alight when the fire fighters arrived.
Group Manager Ben Levy, incident commander at the incident, explained: “We were called to this fire just after 2am and found it well alight. We immediately called for extra resources and at it’s height we had seven fire engines in attendance.
“Thankfully three people who were asleep inside got out and were unharmed. The fire is now under control and we are damping down at the scene.
“We’ve worked really hard to get the road clear and re-opened for the Monday morning traffic and people travelling to the train station.”
