RBH homes receive pioneering sprinkler fire protection

Date published: 08 June 2015

Two RBH homes have become the first to receive state-of-the-art sprinkler protection as the mutual housing society seeks new ways to serve and protect their most vulnerable tenants.

The two bungalows, in the Cutgate area, are home to four RBH tenants who benefit from round-the-clock care from employees from the Alternative Futures Group. The new sprinklers provide peace-of-mind and the safest possible environment for RBH tenants and their carers; they comply with current fire safety legislation without the intrusion caused by alternative safety options such as heavy fire doors.

The sprinkler systems were installed by RBH in partnership with Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS), Safegard Ltd, Alternative Futures Group and Oxford-based contractors CDL Sprinklers.

Gareth Swarbrick, RBH Chief Executive, said: “Our tenants are at the heart of everything we do, so I'm delighted that along with our partners we've been able to deliver this innovative new system which protects our tenants and their carers without reducing their quality of life. We're now keen to see whether we have other tenants who might benefit from similar investment."

Ian Bailey, GMFRS’ Group Manager for Rochdale, Oldham and Bury, said: “This sprinkler project is a great example of how GMFRS can work with responsible housing providers like RBH to protect those people who are identified as being at increased risk of vulnerability to fire. I would like to thank all those involved who have worked tirelessly to make this happen.”
