Police thank public for assistance with new Robert Hart appeal

Date published: 06 June 2015

Detectives investigating the assault of Robert Hart want to thank the public after an influx of new images and footage was sent to police following the launch of a new appeal.

Robert, 26, died on Wednesday 11 June 2014, five days after the assault at the music festival which left him fighting for life with a bleed on the brain.

It has been nearly a year since the attack - which occurred on 7 June 2014 - and Greater Manchester Police are still hunting the man responsible.

Officers have interviewed more than 200 potential suspects and witnesses in the 12 months since, and have trawled through hundreds of hours of video footage and photographs in a bid to identify the offender.

This week, detectives investigating the assault launched a new appeal targeting those who attended last year’s Parklife Weekender, appealing for them to send any video footage or images to police.

The investigation team set up a new email address, helpbobby@gmp.police.uk, to receive any photographs or video footage sent and the hashtag #helpbobby is being used online in a bid to further raise awareness of Robert’s plight.

Since the launch of the new email address, police have received over 80 new emails with information and are delighted with the response from the public.

Det Supt Phil Reade said: “We are really pleased with the response that we have had from the public since the new email address was set up and the hashtag started being used on social media.

“I would just like to say a huge thank you to the public for the support that the new appeal has received so far and hopefully with their continued help, web can finally identify the man responsible for Robert’s tragic death.

“We have been previous been within a few feet of having seeing this man in a picture and being able to identify him, but unfortunately the shot we need has eluded us.

“I want to encourage people to keep coming forward and continue with your fantastic support, whether that is by using the hashtags on social media or by sending in any videos or images.

“Robert’s attacker is on one of those photos somewhere, but we still need the public’s help to find him and bring some peace to the loved ones he has left behind.”

A £23,000 reward offered by the Parklife organisers and Crimestoppers remains available to anyone who provides information which leads to the conviction of Robert’s attacker.
Anyone with information can contact the incident room direct on 0161 856 9283 or email the incident room on helpbobby@gmp.police.uk with any relevant footage.

Alternatively you can call police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
