Fake iPhone scam in Rochdale Town Centre

Date published: 04 June 2015

People are being warned to be wary of an ongoing scam in which individuals are trying to sell fake iPhones in Rochdale Town Centre.

The police have recently received reports of a group of individuals attempting to sell the fake goods. On one occasion, the victim was offered an iPhone 6 at well below the recommended retail price.

The phone has subsequently been found to be counterfeit and has been seized by police.

A spokesperson for Rochdale police said: “Please trust your instincts – if an offer looks too good to be true, then it probably is. Legitimate designer items are rarely discounted, so do not rush and be fooled into believing you are getting a good deal.

“Ask the trader or retailer if there is a returns policy or guarantee. Most rogue traders will not offer this. If you are not sure whether the items are genuine, do not hand over your money, it is not worth the risk.”
