Private Fred Jackson and Private Albert Snow remembered 100 years after their deaths

Private Fred Jackson and Private Albert Snow have been remembered 100 years after their deaths.

Private Jackson was born in Littleborough in 1894 but had moved to Pontefract with his family by 1901. Fred, a painter, enlisted in Pontefract and was killed in action on 3 June 1915 at the age of 21.

Private 1856 Fred Jackson 1st/5th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry is buried in grave number D5 at White City Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, Nord, France.

Private Albert Snow was born in Oldham in 1896. By the time of the 1911 census, Albert and his brother and sister were living with their aunt and uncle at 37 Equitable Street, Milnrow.

Albert enlisted in Oldham and sadly died from wounds at the age of 18 on 3 June 1915. Pte Albert Snow, 1810 1st/10th Battalion Manchester Regiment, is buried at East Mudros Military Cemetery on the Greek island of Limnos.

Private Snow was remembered at the annual Guild Festival in July 1915 to remember those who had died during WW1. The Littleborough Defence Corps and Church Lads Brigade attended the service.
